National Fitness Day – September 26th 2014
National Fitness Day is the largest celebration of physical activity in the UK. Hundreds of clubs, parks and leisure centres – including Active Nation venues – are opening their doors to welcome you for free.
We all know the great things linked to regular exercise including a healthier heart and a better quality of life. But many of us find getting fit a lonely slog and it shouldn’t be.
Research shows if you exercise with a friend you are more likely to stick at it. A combination of social atmosphere and camaraderie creates a positive mood and helps us to have fun.
That’s what ukactive’s National Fitness Day is all about – providing the inspiration and opportunities to move. So join us and thousands of others across the country on September 26th and get active.
Whether you fancy toning up, becoming more active, or just trying something new, the National Fitness Day ‘Power Half Hour’ is a great place to start.
Active Nation venues across the country are among the hundreds of organisations hosting ‘Power Half Hour’ events on National Fitness Day – and you don’t even have to be a member to take part.
We have got everything from free ski sessions, to free gym workouts, free exercise classes and so much more. So why not sign up today and bring a friend along too!
David Stalker from ukactive said: “National Fitness Day is about building a countrywide community of people who are united by the desire to hang out together doing something fun. Some of them might also be motivated by the idea that it is also going to be good for them.
“And that really is the correct order. The latest statistics show that 25% of adults in the UK are completely inactive. That means they do absolutely nothing to raise their heart rate moderately. Ever.”
Sounds shocking, right? Whatever the reason, a lot of people find it a real challenge getting into the mindset where physical activity is a pleasure, rather than a chore. National Fitness Day is all about providing the inspiration to get active!
David added: “It’s about creating a social movement that offers everyone an opportunity to get involved in physical activity, for free, through a ‘Power Half Hour’ event on their doorstep. And it’s about kick-starting the journey into regular exercise for thousands of people across the country, so that we have a healthier, happier nation!”
