Here we go! Exciting news alert!

Over the last few weeks we’ve been listening to your suggestions about how we could improve our Group Exercise timetable, to make the classes you love more accessible at better times, move some locations around to help with capacity issues, introduce some new stuff, and overall give it an exciting refresh.

Below you’ll see the new timetable for both All Seasons Leisure Centre and Clayton Green Sports Centre, which is launching from Monday 10th October 2016.

We’ve added some fantastic new High Intensity Interval Training classes (HIIT) which will give your workout a real fast paced blast, added a new Battle Rope session which is going to be absolutely brilliant, and a new Body Attack session which is sure to be an absolute winner.

Inevitably there has had to be a few sacrifices of sessions to fit the new expanded programme into our timetable, but please be assured that where cancellations of sessions have happened, these have been carefully monitored over a number of weeks to identify the lowest attended sessions.

Anyway, less talk and more action…take a look below and then get ready to get involved. We’ll be having a free launch weekend to celebrate the start of the new programme on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October 2016, so make sure that you book yourself in for some classes to have a taster of what you can expect. All classes that weekend will be free, so make sure you bring a few friends too and make it a party to remember!

At Little Angels Nursery in Chorley, our aim is to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment for children in our community, where they can learn and develop through play. We actively promote and encourage the development of positive self-image and confidence and with our nursery staff we create an environment that assists both parents and children to feel secure, happy and relaxed.

In addition to this we are also able to fully access other facilities within All Seasons Leisure Centre such as the main sports hall for physical play and a soft-play area, dance classes, swim classes and have the use of a fabulous outdoor area.

The nursery operates with fully qualified staff; with the Nursery Manager certificated to BA (Hons) level 6 and the supervisor being certificated to NVQ level 3 in Childcare and the assistants to NVQ level 2 in Childcare.  All staff who work directly in the nursery attend regular training courses to ensure they are fully up to date with new practices and with first aid.  In addition to this, all staff that work within the leisure centre are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked on commencement of employment.

Enrolment

All parents must complete an enrolment form for each of their children before they can attend Little Angels Nursery. The enrolment form is your contract and is retained by Little Angels Nursery; however a copy of this form can be requested for your personal records. If at any time you wish to terminate your child’s nursery place, you must do so in written form and give four weeks notice. If you leave before your notice is up you will still be charged for this period. If at any point we cannot reach a child’s main carers for illness absence or account arrears we will use the emergency details as next point of contact.

Settling In

Parents are encouraged to bring their child to Little Angels Nursery for a short stay visit before they officially start, however parents must stay on site for this visit. A number of visits will be available depending on the individuality of each child. We encourage parents to let their children bring a favourite toy or comforter until they are settled.

Timetable & Routine

Our Nursery believes that care and education are equally important in the experience which we offer children. The routines and activities that make up the sessions/day in the Nursery are provided in ways that:

  • Help each child to feel that they are a valued member of our nursery by ensuring their values and interests are catered for
  • Ensure the safety of each child
  • Help children to gain from the social experience of being part of a group
  • Provide children with opportynities to learn and help them value learning

Quality

Our setting has completed the Lancashire Step into Quality. Step into Quality is an access route into the Lancashire Quality Award, which provides an opportunity for practitioners to spend focused time looking at what they do everyday and considering which parts work well and which could be improved upon. Step into Quality is underpinned by the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Quality Improvement Principles. It is an overarching systematic tool for self-evaluation and reflection that will embrace all areas within settings, from leadership and management to daily routines. The Lancashire Quality Award is also underpinned by the National Quality Improvement Principles.

To help us outline our quality principles, Little Angels has developed its 'Local Offer'. The purpose of the 'local offer' is to improve choice for families by providing information about services available for children and young people aged 0-25 who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Our Local Offer is available to view by copying a pasting the url below into your web browser:

Curriculum

Our setting works with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including child-minders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework supports an integrated approach to early learning and care. It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children. The themes and principles of the Early Years Foundation Stages are as flows:

THEME: A Unique Child
PRINCIPLE: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. At Little Angels we treat all our children as individuals. Our planning reflects this and has a child centred approach to make sure that all our children get the most out of their time at nursery and have the support from staff to become independent and reach their full potential.

THEME: Positive Relationships
PRINCIPLE: Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person. Like most early years settings, we have a key worker system. When each child starts they are assigned a key worker. The idea of this is so that the transition from home or from another setting to Little Angels is as comfortable for the child as possible.

THEME: Enabling Environments
PRINCIPLE: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.

THEME: Learning And Development
PRINCIPLE: Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected.

Provision

Little Angels is only a small nursery, and so provides a home away from home environment for our children. Our nursery is one large room. We have a cloakroom at the nursery entrance. This is where children can hang their coats and bags on their own peg. Rain coats and wellies are also stored in this area. Children are encouraged to find their own coats and develop their self help skills. All 10 areas of provision are set up around the room. The areas of provision are as follows:

SNACK: This is where fresh drinking water is available throughout the day. Children are encouraged to be independent by pouring their own drinks and helping themselves to snack.

MARK MAKING: this is where early mark making begins. This is not the same as writing. It is firstly a sensory and physical experience which later forms into writing skills. All children can access pens, pencils, crayons and chalks along with a range of booklets and writing pads. Children can also make marks on white boards. Children are introduced to their name cards and number lines in this area.

CONSTRUCTION AND SMALL WORLD: This area is a great area for children to develop their imagination. Large and small wooden blocks are available continuously for design and making along with smaller blocks and magnetic tubes. Small world people and animals are also available to support children’s creativity. Natural resources are also available to enhance children’s play.

WATER: the large water tray means that children can openly explore the area without the worry of making too much mess. Mathematical development begins in this area with the exploration of shape, space and measure with a range of funnels, jugs and beakers.

WORKSHOP: this area is where children can express their art and design ideas. Children can use a range of resources to create their pictures or models. Children are encouraged to use the tools independently but safely and to ensure that their name is displayed on their work.

ACTIVITY AREA: this area is a great area for the children to learn the all important turn taking and sharing skills. There are a number of large and small jigsaws and a range of group games to play.

MALLEABLE: this area offers a range of stimulating and sensory experiences for all children. They can spend time exploring play dough, rice, foam, jelly, gloop and many more malleable ingredients. This is an area where children are encouraged to get messy. They can also explore mark making and pattern making in this area also.

ROLE PLAY: this is where children can begin their imaginative play. They have access to a range of resources and props so they can dress up as they wish. Real fruit and vegetables are provided to offer the children sensory experiences while in this area. Children are free to chop and slice the food and use real life sized pots and pans to create their own “meals”. A computer is available at all times during the day for children to develop their ICT skills.

BOOK CORNER: the book area is the best area for children to go and enjoy some quiet time and relax. Big cushions, smaller cushions and a sofa are available for children to look at all the story books and puppets, along with blankets to snuggle under.

SAND: the large wooden sand pit is big enough for children to explore in large or small groups. They can explore with buckets and spades along with other wooden and metal utensils. Shells are hidden in a treasure basket and a dustpan and brush is available so that children can sweep up their own sand and gain independence. Children often transfer the animals, cars, people and other enhancements into this area to extend their small world and imaginative play.

OUTDOOR AREA: which is a great place for children to develop their physical skills. Exploration is key in this area as there are so many different activities to participate in. We have a sheltered area in our garden so that we can explore our outdoor area “whatever the weather” so it is important that our children remember coats, wellies, sunhats and sun cream.
