
Active Nation are launching a range of exciting new activities for adults in Southampton in the New Year aimed at getting the Nation more active! Most of these activities are free or heavily subsidised so enquire and book early to avoid disappointment!
Running for Beginners – New Year, New You! Active Nation, in partnership with the Lordshill Running Club, are delivering a beginners running course at the Outdoor Sports Centre. This six week course will work on technique and developing participants from walking, to jogging to eventually running. This course is ideal for those who struggle to stay motivated or want to improve their general fitness. The course will be a mix of running, jogging & walking at different speeds with a warm up and cool down involved, so you will not be jogging at the same speed for the whole hour! The sessions start on Saturday 14th January from 10-11am for 6 consecutive weeks and costs just £18! This is a great session to socialise while you’re getting fit so why not bring your friends along! Back to Netball - Back to Netball is coming to Chamberlayne Leisure Centre! If you have not played netball for years but are looking for a fun way of getting fit with other like minded adults then this course is for you. A qualified netball coach will show the basic skills of playing netball in a fun and friendly environment. This is a great opportunity to make friends, have a laugh and play netball in a fun non competitive and indoor setting! The course starts on Wednesday 18th January from 6.20-7.20pm for 6 consecutive weeks and costs just £21. All equipment is provided, so you just need to bring yourself along! Free Big Splash weekend – On Saturday 28th January at The Quays Swimming & Diving Complex and Sunday 29th January at Bitterne Leisure Centre, Active Nation are hosting a Big Splash weekend! The weekend will celebrate all aquatic activities that the venues can offer and it is completely free for children and adults! Venues will offer taster sessions in a range of activities like Aqua Zumba, Swim lessons, Water Walkerz, the new Quays inflatable, dive tasters, water polo, swim fit, flumes and much more! There is also a chance to meet some Olympic medal winners on the days! Pregnant Mums physical activity project – Starting on Saturday the 14th January from 1-3pm at The Quays Swimming and Diving complex all mums to be can sign up to a 6 week course which involves low impact studio based exercise class specific for pregnant women, access to the swimming pool, crèche facilities, refreshments and the chance to meet other pregnant women. The session will be led by a qualified pre/post natal exercise expert who will also be on hand offer advice on nutrition and exercise during the refreshments at the end of each week. Back to Badminton – Back to Badminton is for adults aged 16+ who have not played badminton for a while or anyone who has never picked up a racket and shuttlecock before. This 6 week course will teach you how to carry out the basic shots, improve technique and show you how to play the wonderful game of Badminton! Free Laser Clay pigeon shooting taster sessions – Come and try out the new activity that is laser clay pigeon! Shoot a de-commissioned gun with an infrared laser sight at a moving plastic disc, just like the real thing but with out the kick back, noise and damage of a real gun. Children and adults welcome. The free taster sessions are to be held at the Outdoor Sports Centre on the netball courts on Sunday 26th February from 11am-2pm & Sunday 22nd April from 11am-2pm. Free Veracity Activity programme – Starting from January, Active Nation will be delivering a wide range of activities for children and adults on the veracity recreation ground and in the multi-use games area. We are running Netball and outdoor fitness sessions for adults, and basketball competitions, dodge ball sessions and football sessions for children. All of theses activities are completely free and delivered by a qualified coach or instructor. Adults Learn to fish course – Active Nation are working in Partnership with ‘For Life Experiences’ to deliver a 5 week learn to fish course at Woodmill Outdoor Activities Centre, starting on Sunday 6th May from 10am-3pm. This 5 week course costs just £25 for 25 hours of coaching! All equipment is provided, so you just need to bring yourself along.
